#1. Carpet shedding
Depending on the type of carpet you have, you may experience more shedding than what you’ve seen with other carpets.
Some carpet’s fibers are meant to shed and it’s one of the features of that specific material.
But if your carpet isn’t supposed to shed, here are some ways you can prevent this from happening:
Use vacuum settings for carpet. If the vacuum is too strong, this may cause fibers to dislodge and shed.
Use an appropriate vacuum nozzle. If the nozzle is very rough, it might be pulling out fibers.
Be gentle. Carpet can be delicate. Be careful with what you run across the surface of it. If you’re moving furniture around, either lift it off the carpet completely or put it on top of something hard to slide across.
#2. Ripples in your carpet
Have little areas of your carpet lifting up from the floor, in ripple like formations?
These annoying little ripples make it difficult to walk across your carpet (you might have even tripped over it a few times) and makes moving things around almost impossible.
Here are some ways to prevent your carpet from rippling:
Take care of humidity. If the room gets too humid, the moisture can cause the carpet to swell and lift off the floor. If humidity is an issue for you, a dehumidifier may be necessary.
Don’t move heavy items around. If you’re constantly moving heavy tables around, the weight of what you’re moving can stretch the carpet and cause ripples. Instead, lift it up completely or put it on something hard to slide across.
#3. Carpet becoming matted
Another common issue people face with their carpet is matting. This might make specific areas of your carpet darker and smoother. If it’s really bad, it might even start to get shiny and slippery.
Here are some ways to prevent your carpet getting matted:
Clean your carpet regularly. Having excess soil, dirt, and grime make the fibers of your carpet stick together and clump.
Use rubber bases under furniture. Heavy furniture in combination with a small base where weight is distributed, equals squished matted carpet. Using castor cups and other types of floor protectants can reduce this.
